For too long, the menstrual cycle has been reduced to a single event: the period. But the truth is far richer. Your cycle is a dynamic, four‑phase rhythm that influences your energy, creativity, communication, and emotional landscape. When you understand these phases, you stop fighting your body and start working with it.

Think of your cycle as a monthly arc — a creative process, a seasonal shift, a story with four distinct chapters. Each phase brings its own gifts, and each one asks something different of you.
Some gentle disclaimer beforehand: you might find that the season-metaphors do not resonate with you and your experiences. That is perfectly fine, we will explore other ways of expression as well, I just find the seasons an easier introduction to the phases.
Let’s explore the four phases and what they invite into your life.
Menstrual Phase: Rest + Reset
The menstrual phase is your inner winter. Energy draws inward, intuition sharpens, and your body asks for softness. This is the moment to pause, release, and reset.
Your hormones are at their lowest, which naturally slows you down.
Clarity often emerges when you step back.
Rest isn’t a luxury here, it’s the foundation for everything that comes next.
This phase invites you to let go of what’s not working and create space for what will.
Follicular Phase: Emergence
As bleeding ends, the world begins to open again. The follicular phase is your inner spring — fresh, light, full of possibility.
Estrogen rises, bringing energy, optimism, and mental sharpness.
New ideas feel exciting rather than overwhelming.
You’re naturally more curious, playful, and open to experimentation.
This is the perfect time to start new projects, brainstorm, plan, and explore, but do not rush out the door just yet. You’re still emerging — gently but powerfully.
Ovulation: Expression
Ovulation is your inner summer: bright, expressive, magnetic.
Communication flows easily.
Confidence peaks.
You feel more outward‑facing, social, and connected.
This is the moment to share your ideas, have important conversations, collaborate, and show up fully. You’re at your most expressive: not just physically, but creatively and emotionally.
Luteal Phase: Refinement
After the peak of ovulation, the luteal phase brings your inner autumn: a time of grounding, focus, and discernment.
Progesterone rises, encouraging steadiness and structure.
You become more detail‑oriented and reflective.
You naturally shift from expansion to refinement.
This is the phase for editing, completing, organizing, and tying loose ends. You see what needs to be improved and you have the patience to do it.
This is also the phase, where your Inner Critic can feel the strongest as well.
A Cycle, Not a Straight Line
When you honor each phase, you stop expecting yourself to be the same every day. You begin to see your cycle as a rhythm: one that supports creativity, productivity, and wellbeing when you move with it instead of against it.
Your body isn’t inconsistent.
It’s cyclical.
And that’s a strength.
